IntraRisk
has pioneered the validation of hurricane wind models through marine and
inland anemometer measurments of wind direction, wind gust, and 10 minute
mean average over the entire duration of the storm. A GIS-based storm model
verification/visualization tool was developed by IntraRisk engineers for
wind trace comparison. This tool enables IntraRisk engineers to see hurricane
tracks, simulated wind swaths, comparisons between actual and modeled wind
speeds, and anemometer location and photos (if available) simultaneously.
In the past years, over 420 duration plots have been produced for more than
140 stations. Here are some selected storms that demonstrate actual and
modeled windspeeds and wind directions. |
